10 years ago on this date, I played my first ever show with a band. We were newly formed and without a name — so, since the school talent show, which fell on April 1st, was our first gig, we decided to call ourselves The April Fools.
Later on, after Arden cut off a little bit of his finger in tech class, we became The Cutoffs. We played two gigs in total. Our third gig was canceled because there were too many bugs outside at the venue we were supposed to play. We disbanded shortly thereafter, when Arden and Mike went away to college.
Arden's dad filmed and uploaded our three-song set — this video is an excerpt from the full video, which you can watch here: https://youtu.be/ripxHFbi-0E
We played two covers — "The Pretender" by Foo Fighters and "My Generation" by The Who — and only had time for one original, but we couldn't decide between two songs I had written, "Far and Away" and "Of," so we decided to combine them. Thus, the confusingly titled "Far Of Away" was born. This was its first, and possibly only, full band performance.
It's trippy that this was a decade ago. To me, it's the first 10-year marker of this magnitude in my life. I hope you enjoy this little time capsule.
Drums ~ Mike Joncas
Lead guitar ~ Mitch Gage
Bass & vocals ~ Arden Kellner
Rhythm guitar & vocals ~ Kyle Micho
Mike and I recorded an 8-song demo/album later in the year, named "Medium Rare" because it was not quite well done — "Far Of Away" was the last song on the album: https://kylemicho.bandcamp.com/track/far-of-away
