Today, “You” is out everywhere. 🤍
I remember when I heard this song in my head on the subway heading from Brooklyn into Manhattan at the end of June 2021. It was pretty much all there. The spirit of it is extremely powerful, and really wanted to come through. It has a palpable life of its own. I’ve never written a song like it, before or since.
The songs that continued to come through in the next couple of years and eventually found their place on the album are pretty different from what I’ve written in the past. This whole thing has been a process of growth and self-discovery—I’m a different person than I was when I released my last album in 2020. I really like what these songs are communicating, and I’m deeply grateful that my job is to play them out for people. Now, fiiiiinally, you can listen to them in recorded form.
My one goal with this album was to maintain the spirit of each song. I used to be so caught up with form and physical detail in my recordings. I hope you’re able to hear and feel the spirit of each of these living, breathing songs. They were written and recorded in Syracuse, Woodstock, New York City, Oregon, Kansas, and Nashville.
Emma majorly helped me with all aspects of this project throughout (thank you Emma Bea ❤️). She took the album cover photo at the World’s Largest Kaleidoscope earlier this year. She also wrote the last three lines of the album.
This world needs more love. If you can be one thing, be loving. Be creative, and express yourself fully and with courage. That’s the recipe for miracles. Get out of your brain and into your heart. You only get one life as you. Why not be you?
